Salt Tasting Room

Dagmar's coworker Mia celebrated her farewell from Vancouver at the Salt Tasting Room in Gastown which offers an intriguing concept: You get a selection of three cheese and meat choices and three complements. If you wish, the waiters will also select three wine tastings that match your choice of cheese and meat. It's all set in an stylish urban setting, neat.

Orienteering in Burnaby

Although orienteering (Orientierungslauf) was big in Switzerland, especially at ETH, we first tried it in Vancouver. Actually, in Burnaby, Central Park. Burnaby is more of a suburb as you can see in the photo - interesting for urban designers!

People, Pixels and Planning Conference in Castlegar, March 5th

I was invited to the People, Pixels and Planning Conference in Castlegar and after an excellent workshop, I was glad to have a full day with glorious sunshine for sightseeing. Castlegar was founded by the Doukhobor, a Russian Christian sect that had been exiled from Russia. A museum and some Borscht on local menus are still reminders of that history:

Lonely Planet says that Castlegar was primarily known as "Highway junction 3 and 3A" and upper and lower downtown centres are still a bit of a reminder of that history:

On Saturday, I also got to see the neighbouring city of Nelson which is more famous for its coffee-culture and local arts.
